Privacy policy
Geo Spots operates Geo Spots at https://geospots.net. This policy explains the information processed when you browse the public map, sign in, or contribute a location.
Information we process
- Google or Amazon Cognito account subject, email address, display name, and recent account activity time when you sign in.
- Projects, labels, notes, coordinates, moderation submissions, reports, private feedback, and audit events.
- Browser-provided location only after you grant geolocation permission.
- Operational request information such as IP address, request time, and request identifier.
- Privacy-preserving analytics totals, including page views, random browser-session counts, and an approximate country code derived from the request IP address.
How information is used
We use this information to authenticate accounts, provide private project storage, publish approved community locations, prevent abuse, investigate reports, respond to feedback, and operate the service. Approved spots—including their labels, notes, and exact coordinates—are public. Feedback is visible only to administrators.
Analytics are aggregated by day and country. Geo Spots does not retain raw IP addresses, user agents, or referrer URLs in analytics. A one-way hash of a random browser-session identifier is kept in Redis for up to three days solely to avoid counting the same session twice. The browser's Do Not Track signal and the preference below are respected.

Service providers
AWS hosting, Amazon Cognito identity, Google identity, database, logging, OpenStreetMap, Esri, and the locally installed MaxMind GeoLite2 country database may process or provide limited information needed to deliver Geo Spots. The country database is queried locally; visitor addresses are not sent to MaxMind. Map providers receive normal browser requests when their map tiles are displayed. We do not sell account information.
Use of Google Maps features is also subject to the Google Maps Platform Terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
Retention and deletion
Account information and projects are retained while the account is active. Non-administrator users can permanently delete their account from the application. Moderation and security records may be retained when reasonably necessary to address abuse, legal obligations, or service integrity. Daily analytics totals are retained for approximately 12 months.
