Getting started

Explore the world map and organize your own places.

Geo Spots combines a public community map with private projects for saving locations. This guide explains what you can browse without an account and how to save, import, and contribute spots after signing in.

Browse public places without signing in

The anonymous map shows approved public locations as coarse numbered clusters. Each number represents a group of places in an area, rather than an exact individual position. Dismiss the sign-in prompt to browse this preview. Sign in with Google or email to explore individual public spots and use account features.

Choose Map for a street view or Satellite for imagery. Provider attribution remains visible on the map. Coverage and imagery dates vary, so always verify details independently.

Find places on the map

Signed-in users can expand Map search to find published spots by name in the current map area. Move or zoom the map to change the area you are searching. Category filters and the country selector help narrow the map to the places you want to explore.

At wider zoom levels, nearby spots are grouped into clusters. Zoom in for more detail. The distance ruler lets you measure approximate distances between points on the map; it is not a route planner or navigation service.

Save locations in private projects

After signing in, create or select a project. Use the add control in Customized labels, then click the map to choose a position. Give the spot a name, choose a category, and add an optional note. Choose private visibility for locations you want to keep in your account.

You can also use your current GPS location if you grant your browser location permission. Edit a saved spot to update its details or position. Your private projects require your account to access them; they are not public search-engine pages.

Administrator imports

Administrators have project import tools for CSV, GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, and GPX files, as well as supported Google Maps links. For matching imported spots, Skip duplicates keeps existing records, while Update matching spots updates the records the importer identifies as matches.

Review names, categories, positions, and visibility after importing. Import only information you have permission to use. A map-provider link does not transfer ownership of its imagery or data.

Share a spot with the community

Regular users can submit a saved location for moderation. Submitted spots are reviewed before publication. Approved public spots can expose their name, note, and coordinates, so check every field before submitting. Category-specific publication restrictions still apply.

Do not contribute confidential, personal, unlawfully obtained, or dangerously sensitive information. Geo Spots is an informational community resource, not an emergency, targeting, navigation, or safety-of-life service.

Report a problem or get help

Signed-in users can report an inaccurate or inappropriate public spot from the map. Use private feedback for support, privacy requests, or security concerns. Read the privacy policy and terms of use before contributing.
